THE ART OF BREEDING
Endless love and responsibility
This section, probably the most interesting to read, we’ll give extra attention and space trying to give you the best possible insight in our breeding and to answer all questions one might have when it comes to raising our litters. However, may there appear some question we haven’t given an answer to or you may need more information, please feel free to contact us!
As previously stated our ultimate goal in breeding is breeding of functionally healthy, well-tempered and stable character puppies with the conformation typical to the breed standard. We want to breed dogs that will live a long, healthy and happy life with their new families!
Litter planning
____________
Planning of a new litter begins with a careful selection of a stud male, thorough research of a pedigree combination with our female, bloodlines background, health records etc. A very demanding task as not always all information are available and one needs to spend hours and hours of work, consulting other breeders, collecting information, photos on a specific male’s progeny and any data that might and will be relevant. It is not plainly mating of two beautiful dogs!

It is not plainly mating of two beautiful dogs! A responsible breeder needs to dig further for the things that are, like I like to say, hidden behind that beautiful white fur. When breeding many things have to be taken into consideration and here are some of the most important guidelines we follow:
- We choose only functionally and clinically healthy dogs, dogs completely free of any health condition or any genetic disease, free of any deformities and disabilities. These dogs must be tested and in possession of health checks certificates.
- We choose only dogs that have a sound, stable character, those who are well-tempered and whose conformation makes them typical representatives of the breed. We do not use dogs that appear to have even the slightest behavioral/character issues.
- Our females, besides being perfectly healthy and tested, will not be used for breeding before the age of 24 months.

Pregnancy
____________
And then, the pregnancy! A special time in female’s life, special condition asking for an extra pinch of care and attention. Our pregnant females continue to have regular daily activities in order to avoid overweighting and maintain her muscle tone. We always feed our dogs the best, but the food for a pregnant mom is even more carefully selected and prepared due to her body condition and increased need for different vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthy diet.

We always feed our dogs the best, but the food for a pregnant mom is even more carefully selected and prepared due to her body condition and increased need for different vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthy diet. Preparation also means setting up a whelping box in puppies’ room where mom, once the puppies arrive, will have enough space and privacy in moments she needs some rest and a quiet place to enjoy. Few hours before and once the labor starts, we never leave our girl all by herself. We are there to monitor, help and provide necessary assistance, if needed, in order to ensure all puppies come to the world healthy, safe and sound and to enable our girl to have an easy and smooth delivery without any consequences for her or the puppies. Of course, we always have few vets available, in case of need, which eventually visit us once the labor is over to check the mother and the puppies. White Swiss Shepherd (Berger Blanc Suisse) females are wonderful, loving, caring and gentle moms completely devoted to their puppies, to cleaning, nursing and raising their babies.

RAISING OF PUPPIES
Our puppies are born and raised in our family house. Puppy unit is a big room where we can be with both the mother and the little ones 24/7, monitor, play, have fun and simply enjoy with them and from where they all have access to any part of the house as well as free exit to the yard. Puppy unit provides the female and her puppies enough space for daily activities, lots of toys, tunnels, ropes, balls, name it all, for puppies to have fun and warm cozy pillows and puppy beds for the necessary rest.

There is also a video surveillance which allows us to watch them all the time (via TV, laptop or mobile phone) if we are in another room, in the yard or outside the property. No matter the ideal conditions pups have inside, their very favorite place is, logically, the garden and the outside puppy playground. Puppies simply love to run around, smell everything, discover new things, places and remote corners of the yard, play with big ones and learn from them.

Socialisation
____________
Growing in our house, from the very first day puppies are being accustomed to different sounds of everyday life in it. We try to teach them even those sounds that they have less chance to hear, like thunder striking, sirens, alarms, etc. by using the advantages of modern technologies and the internet.
Having been aware of the benefit and importance to raise sound tempered, healthy dogs we apply Early Neurological Stimulation method, doing these exercises with all puppies beginning from a 3rd until the 16th day of life. For more info about ENS, please visit

We strive to ensure the best home for every puppy but we also try to ensure the right puppy goes to a right owner. That is why we use to have long talks and consultations with future families/ owners of our puppies, which let us get to know each other better and get more precise insight in a lifestyle of a future puppy-parent(s) and what for dog they expect to get. That is also why, during the process of choosing the right puppy for the right home, we do Volhard’s Puppy Aptitude Testing. We consider this testing to be of a great importance and extremely beneficial. For more info on PAT, please visit http://volhard.com/pages/pat.php
All puppies are adorably cute but only the right match between you and your new puppy will make it a dream come true!
When it comes to puppies’ health, all our puppies are timely de-wormed, vaccinated, revaccinated, chipped, clinically examined by the vet and have clear health records as well as their passports and FCI pedigrees.
Once the puppy leaves our home, it doesn’t mean it ends there. On the contrary, we keep following the life of our puppies and have regular contact within their new families. We are always available might their owners have any questions or need to consult us and we provide lifelong assistance and guidance. We are all somehow a family connected by our unconditional love for our White Swiss Shepherds (Berger Blanc Suisse)!!!

We know that inheritance and genetic factor play a huge role on a puppies’ character and on what kind of behavior they will show when they grow up. Inheritance in one important part BUT we strongly believe that breeders engagement and socialization process he puts his puppies through has even more influence and advantage on how the dogs’ character will be in the future. That is why one of our priorities, when it comes to “building” a puppies’ character, is carefully done socialization process and serious approach to work on their first experiences both inside but also outside our yard: meeting other dogs, different animals, new people, spending time with children, walks to the nature, parks, crowded place in the city, our coffee bar, car riding and many more. We are also trying to stimulate their curiosity, give them sufficient brain exercise and do a basic training through motivational playing which means only but having fun while learning. Before going to new homes all puppies know basic commands and are house/ potty trained. Once puppy has learnt basic things, those can easily be “translated” into a language of its new loving family.
